What Hostel II Was Really About
Caution: major spoilers ahead.
Hostel II was actually a cautionary tale for rich Americans. The moral: vote Republican.
Hear me out.
After the bit with Paxton, we are introduced to three Americans. More to the point, they represent the American taxpayer. And they are enjoying their life. Living their life. Even the father of one of them calls to make sure they’re OK and urges them to be safe. They are then enticed by the foreign girl to a spa. It’s only when they arrive at the town do things start getting revealed. We find out that one girl, Beth, is quite rich and actually keeps her father on a salary. This clearly marks her as favoring Democratic policies, with her almost guilty attitude in hiding her wealth and her father representing the lazy recipients of welfare and/or social security. No wonder he wanted her to be safe.
We then focus more on the various people that bid on, and have their way with, these kids. One might think they are the corporations that some think rule our lives, but no. These people represent Democrat politicians. And what do these Democrats do with these kids/taxpayers? Tax them. Yep, that’s actually what they’re doing. And the result of the Democrats’ big government is the slow torture and death of the hardworking American worker. The Democrats’ true nature is revealed in this film as the taxpayer is literally bled dry and fed upon! And it’s not America that benefits, right? It’s other countries that profit from the aid programs of the Dems. Talk about bleeding hearts! Also driven home is that there is no escape under Democrats. Not only did they showcase the tightened control over the kids in this movie, the showed through the final ‘dispatch’ of Paxton at the beginning that even citizens who think themselves free and clear of Democrat’s influence will find they will never be free from the greedy and invasive tax policies of a bloodthirsty giant government. I haven’t figured out what the cat licking the neck stump represents yet. Maybe a small comment on the lolcat phenomenon (”humanz has a flavor!”).
And it would probably continue this way, with Beth being just another victim, but she’s different. How? She’s rich! But instead of trying to hide this, she realizes her only escape it to embrace the ideas of Republicans and use it! And so she does, by taking control and using her money to influence her way to freedom as well as, quite graphically, ‘disempowering’ the Democratic power.
Something you might have noticed: the policy of this place is that one cannot leave until they ‘finish the job’, as demonstrated by the demise of businessman Todd for failing to finish off his prey (maybe denoting the Democrat’s recognition of Republican’s true power as well as their weak will to follow through?). And yet Beth is allowed to leave an alive, albeit not very well, person there to presumably die. You might think this to be an inconsistency, but there’s a message here. Sure, the rest of the world might leech of of Democrat aid, but they know Republican’s mean business and respect and fear that. What happened to the Democrats could happen to them to if they don’t watch themselves! They certainly didn’t show the same respect to Todd, did they?
In conclusion: Kevin Smith is supposed to have a horror movie in the works about Republicans called Red State. I say Eli Roth has set the bar pretty high in the argument for Republicans and Slient Bob may have to drop a few pounds if he hopes to clear it.
(Disclaimer: major satire here. If you haven’t seen Hostel II, or Quentin Tarantino’s interpretation of Top Gun, or don’t get Stephen Colbert, you probably don’t get the joke here. I am not a Republican. Or a Democrat. )
