You have a point, Graham.

On the other hand, he could follow Microsoft's model and release his software updates on time regardless of how buggy they are. Then we'd wait even longer for the "real" update.

I think that you are missing the point. I paid for a license in February of this year. Since then, there have been two FIRM dates announced for new beta versions of Pixel.

In March (I think), Pavel promised to release Beta 7, whether or not there were bugs left. The deadline came and went, and it was only much later that we heard that he was skipping that Beta and going directly to Beta 8.

Then he promised that he would absolutely make a release before his holidays in June. Again the deadline came and went, without Pavel even telling people who are working with him (like Jeff, the forum administrator).

People aren't saying that "Pavel sucks" because of delays, or because he is a lone developer; they are complaining (and not making personal attacks) because they have been lied to. Repeatedly.

It has been nine months since the last beta was released, and some people have been enduring this cycle of broken promises for much longer than I have.

I'm a professional software developer, and good, honest communication is the basis of my business. If we don't meet a deadline (it happens sometimes) we have to notify our customers ahead of time, explain the situation, and revise the deadline. If we lose their trust, they will -- at a minimum -- go elsewhere. They may also demand compensation for the time and effort they have wasted.

Pavel had -- and in some cases still has -- the goodwill and trust of his customers, but it is being squandered piece by piece.
